Liposomes have numerous uses as biochemical and biophysical tools: as vehicles for the delivery of both water and of oil-soluble materials to the cell; as immunological adjuvants; as substrates for the study of membrane properties such as rotational or translational diffusion in the plane of the membrane; and as intermediates in the construction of bilayers large enough for the study of electrical properties of membranes.

Liposomes, Part F, Volume 464 (Methods in Enzymology)

by Liposomes

Liposomes are cellular structures made up of lipid molecules, which are water insoluable organic molecules and the basis of biological membranes. Important as a cellular model in the study of basic biology, liposomes are also used in clinical applications such as drug delivery and virus studies. Liposomes Part F is a continuation of previous MIE Liposome [...]

Vesicles Could Help Locate Tumours or Track Medication the Engineer

by Liposomes

Vesicles could help locate tumours or track medicationThe EngineerBecause of the way the molecules are asymmetrically arranged, the liposome has an electric charge. In the presence of an electric field, the structure bends back and forth to produce a sound wave, much like a speaker cone. To develop a working imaging ... Read the full [...]
